Unit Name: Ogilvie Formation
Unit Type: Lithostratigraphic
Rank: Formation
Status: Formal
Usage: Currently in use
Age Interval: late Zlichovian - Givetian (402.3 - 385.3 ma)
Age Justification: Moderately abundant fauna includes sponges, stromatoporoids, tabulate corals, brachiopods, cephalopods, gastropods, pelecypods, goniatites, cricoconarids, ostracodes, trilobites, echinoderm fragments and conodonts.
Province/Territory: Yukon Territory

Originator: A.W. Norris, 1968.

Type Locality:
On the east flank of Mount Burgess and on an unnamed mountain immediately to the east (66 deg 03'N, 139 deg 35.2'-37'W).

Distribution:
It outcrops in the Backbone Ranges of the Mackenzie Mountains near the headwaters of the Cranswick River, in the southern and eastern parts of the Ogilvie Mountains, in White Mountains, and in the Campbell Lake uplifted area. In the subsurface it occurs in the southwestern part of the Eagle Plain. Thickness ranges from 187 m (615 ft) in the Hart River area to 637 m (2,090 ft) at Mount Burgess.

Lithology:
Consists of medium-brown to grey, fine-grained, in part skeletal and reefal, thin-bedded to massive, resistant, cliff-forming limestones generally weathering light grey. Scattered argillaceous material and silt and chert are present in some beds. Dolomite is present in the lower part of the formation in the Nahoni Range area and in some sections east of the Blackstone River.

Relationship:
The type Ogilvie Fm overlies the Dolomite member of the Gossage Fm. Its lower part equates to the Pellet limestone member and its upper part includes time equivalents of the Hume and Hare Indian formations. The top of the formation is diachronous
