Unit Name: Wahoo Formation
Unit Type: Lithostratigraphic
Rank: Formation
Status: Formal
Usage: Currently in use
Age Interval: Morrowan - Atokan (318.1 - 308 ma)
Age Justification: Brachiopods, bryozoans, Foraminifera.
Province/Territory: Yukon Territory; Alaska

Originator: Brosgé et al., 1962.

Type Locality:
Near Wahoo Lake, eastern Brooks Range (69 deg 0'N, 146 deg 57'W).

Distribution:
The Wahoo Fm ranges from 0-417 m (0-1,367 ft). It is restricted to the eastern Brooks Range and northern Yukon. It pinches out westward near Galbraith Lake and northward along the northeast front ranges of the Brooks Range. It is present in the British, Barns and Buckland mountains of the northwestern Yukon, however, because of insufficient studies, it, along with the Alapah, is mapped as part of the Lisburne Gp. It is unconformably overlain by Permian clastics in the British Mountains-Barns Mountains area of the Yukon.

Locality Data:
Thickness(m): Minimum 0, Maximum 417.

Lithology:
Light coloured limestone with 25 per cent or more coarse-grained limestone or sublithographic to lithographic limestone and dolomite. It can be subdivided into two informal units, listed in ascending order: 1) medium to light grey, coarse-grained, crinoidal limestone and sublithographic to lithographic limestone; and 2) dark coloured coarse-grained crinoidal limestone interbedded with shale and thin-bedded to shaly limestone with a zone of black nodular chert at its base.

Relationship:
It conformably overlies the Alapah Fm and is unconformably overlain by the Siksikpuk Fm (Permian, Alaska) and Sadlerochit Fm. Brosge et al. (1962) suggest it might be conformable with the Sadlerochit Fm in the Wahoo Lake area.
